The Story of Deconstruction in Spin Magazine!
The mighty music magazine is taking Deconstruction to the masses
In December 2024, Eric and Dave got Deconstruction on streaming services for the first time. Fans are stoked. Their friend Taylor Hawkins would have been stoked, too. Until then, the music had lived on YouTube and out-of-print CDs since it came out.
Working through Republic Records, a thriving label now owned by the Universal Music Group, Eric’s getting the album pressed to vinyl for the first time, too.
Jane’s Addiction may have finally ended, but Deconstruction’s long tail shows how much life there is left to live.
To get the word out, Spin magazine published an abbreviated version of this ebook here, “Deconstruction: Portrait of a Quiet Masterpiece.” I’m grateful for the editor, Matthew Thompson, for giving the story that much digital page space. I cut my 82,000-word book to 11,700 or so words. I tried to cut it further, but there was too much good stuff I wanted to share, so this was as much as I could shrink it. Thankfully the editor liked how it read.
You can read the story here at Spin for free.
Find the Deconstruction album on Apple Music and Spotify, even though they don’t pay the artists anything close to what they’re worth.
If you want to drop some money in my writer hat to fund the production of my other music writing, you can buy me a coffee at Venmo at @AaronGilbreath or PayPal me at prowlinggilamonster [at] gmail [dot] com.
Happy New Year!
